Spread the love

With a new year fast approaching and a desire to increase next year’s earnings it’s time to look at opportunities and options available to you.

In this digital era we are living in there are numerous opportunities for working from home. However, I am listing only six work prospects to keep this simple. Some of these may lead to other opportunities for you, depending on your talents, qualifications, likes or dislikes.

This post is about how to make money working at home in a time frame that suits you. Not a time frame that revolves around other people. In saying that, there would be a need for flexibility and some commitment of time with the first 5 ideas.  Ignoring time is not as easy as it sounds, but with good planning goals can be achieved.

Also, this is focusing on planning income for 2018 and beyond. Start working at home in the new year and develop your work into a viable business to grow well beyond 2018.

Types of Work Being Promoted in this Post

This post is not about providing ideas of grand businesses that will make you a millionaire. This is about sensible work from home ideas.

Some of these ideas you could do whilst working a part-time job. Only you would know what you are able to fit into your day, alongside your regular part-time job.

6 Ways to Make Money Working from Home

1. Dog walking

To be a Dog Walker you would need to have a love of the canine species. You would also need to understand a dog’s temperament and any specials needs of the dog you are walking at any one time.

Some countries, or regions within a country, may have special regulations and requirements about being a Dog Walker. Therefore, it is advisable to check with local authorities in the area you would be working.

Many people have built a profitable business by simply becoming a Dog Walker. Over time, these people have taken training courses that qualified them to run a Professional Dog Walking Service.

2. Teacher of Languages

If you have qualifications in either the English language or a foreign language, you would be able to provide a service in your home. Your service may be teaching one-on-one or a number of students at the same time.

Again, this type of tutoring may be governed by Law in specific countries. However, there is usually a need or demand for specialized tutoring of languages one-on-one. Anyone who is qualified and has a desire to tutor at home need only to inquire from their Local authority.

3. Copywriting

With the extensive amount of content produced for online tutoring, marketing and knowledge-based websites, the demand for quality copywriting is high.

People who are highly skilled in copywriting can easily set up their own business. The only requirements are reliable access to the internet, a computer or laptop plus a secure email service. The client requirements would be received by email. Completed content returned by email. Invoicing sent by email. Receiving payment for service rendered through PayPal or similar service would be advisable.

4. Proofreading

There is a high need for proofreading due to so many posts and articles being published online. Also, proofreading of eBooks prior to publishing is high demand. Very many writers of internet content speak English as a second or third language. Consequently, many of these people require proofreading of their content.

In fact, all content should be proofread prior to publishing. Even the best of writers make errors when producing content on a computer, laptop, tablet or other digital devices. Thousands of producers of content are not qualified touch typists; consequently many errors can occur.

5. Transcription

Transcribing recorded interviews is demanding work, but profitable if you have a desire to provide this service. There are hundreds of interviews recorded in the fields of education, law, news, articles and host of other concepts. Other than a reliable internet connection and computer or laptop, a Digital Transcription Kit is required. Olympus equipment is very reliable, and no doubt there are other brands just as reliable.

I personally had experience with Proofreading and Transcription in my own virtual secretarial business. The downside of these two services is time-frame demand. Although the work was enjoyable and rewarding, there had to be a commitment to meet time demands. If time is not a problem, either one or both of these services are viable.

The only point I would make with Transcription is it could be overtaken by Voice equipment, eventually.

6. Affiliate Marketing

This is my favorite way to make money working from home. It’s too good not to recommend.

Affiliate Marketing has been around for a number of years. I was first introduced to it in 2006 although I believe it started prior to the internet. How that worked I have not had time to inquire, but Affiliate Marketing in 2018 and beyond is definitely an option for working from home.

The great thing about Affiliate Marketing is you can work within your own time frame. There are people who work full-time and do Affiliate Marketing in their own time.

There are others who work part-time hours and on their Affiliate Marketing business with their remaining hours.

Of course, there are people like myself who have made Affiliate Marketing their full-time business. In saying ‘full-time business’, Affiliate Marketing does not need to be full-time. It can be worked at any hours of the day or night, to suit the individual.

To build a successful Affiliate Marketing business it is necessary to learn the correct methods of working online. There are many programs online teaching Affiliate Marketing. However, there are many scams. I’m not saying all programs are scams because they certainly are not. But, there are people who will tell you how you can make a certain number of dollars in a day. Such as hundreds of dollars in a day, or thousands of dollars in a week.  It is not so.

There is a saying – If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Returning to the Purpose of this Post

Affiliate Marketing is a way of earning that I recommend. With a desire to work from home in a successful online business, Affiliate Marketing can be what you are looking for.

Because online shopping is significant now in many countries, there are huge businesses using Affiliate Marketers to promote their products. Walmart is one company using Affiliate Marketers. Amazon is another. We only need to look at Google Alerts to see the need for Affiliate Marketing Publishers (which is what I and thousands of others do). Also the demand for staff to manage the Affiliate Marketing Division of various companies. Affiliate Marketing is a growing industry.

As it is with everything worth doing, there is a learning curve. And that learning curve is made simple with the help of the best Affiliate Marketing training program available.

I invite you to take a look at Wealthy Affiliate.

  1. I came across your site while looking for ways to make money from home. I really like the list you have here, but affiliate marketing has caught my attention.

I see you recommend Wealthy Affiliate. I had heard of them but I always thought they were for experienced computer types.

I am not really a tech savoy person do you think it could still work for someone like me?

    • Hi Brendon,

That’s a great question you ask about Wealthy Affiliate.  Yes, most definitely Wealthy Affiliate can work for you.

Hundreds of people with no affiliate marketing experience join Wealthy Affiliate.  Even those with little knowledge of the English language join.  The Wealthy Affiliate program is designed for anyone who has the desire and ambition to build a successful online marketing business.

And, a great feature of Wealthy Affiliate is that everyone has the opportunity to start as a Free member, referred to as a ‘Starter member’.  Starter members have 7 days Free access to the entire Wealthy Affiliate program. At the end of the 7 days they have the opportunity of becoming a Premium member or remaining as a Starter member with limited access to the program.

I do not know of any other Affiliate Marketing program that offers such an amazing opportunity to start their own website and become an super affiliate over time.  So Brendon, it’s all there for you if you’re wanting to get started.

  2. Hello. A very helpful article. I’ve been looking for ways to make money online for a long time. I was tempted by “guru” and unfortunately I lost money. But I do not want to give up quickly. Good that I read your post. I am thinking about affiliate marketing or on copywriting. But I will rather choose affiliate marketing. Thanks for this post.

    • Hi Michael,

Thanks very much for leaving your comment.  I understand exactly what you say about gurus, as I had similar experiences over a few years

I’ve been following Wealthy Affiliate for almost three years and no longer search the web for programs.

There is great demand for quality copywriters these days in view of the intensity of the internet. However, to develop a business such as affiliate marketing allows for time out, rather than producing content by the hour.

  3. I am curious as to what legal liabilities are out there for dog walking in other countries. It seems odd that there are regulations for walking a dog. Also, if I do decide to do dog walking as a way to create a home based job for myself, what would be the average income range for a dog walker?

    • Jessie, thank you for visiting my site and leaving your comment.

To answer your questions, because this website is viewed globally my intention is to alert people to their county’s laws in respect to dog walking.  For instance, in New Zealand dog walking on beaches is restricted in certain times of the year.  I clearly remember being approached by a ‘Dog Controller’ when I took my very small Sidney Silkie dog on to an almost isolated beach one summer’s evening.  It was a most unpleasant experience.  Dog laws are strict in New Zealand in respect to barking, and walking.  In saying that, there are many great reserves and parks where dogs can walked as long as they are on a leash.

If you were to create a home based dog walking business, again your income would depend greatly on the average rate of pay in your country.  Additionally, your level of experience would affect the rate you can charge. Like any type of business, there are rules to abide by and certain levels of expertise to be achieved.

However, in New Zealand a 1 hour walk with 1 dog can cost the owner upward of $20. A 1 hour walk with 2 dogs is double the rate.

I’ve read where an annual income in New Zealand for a dog walking business is approximately $40,000.

I do not have dog walking business, but I know that there is money to be earned.  As with any business, what we profit from our business depends on what we put into the business.

      I hope this helps.

  4. I really like your post. And what I also like is the way that you word it. It made complete sense to me. The list of opportunities that a person can get into was also great. And the explanations also described each on perfectly.
I thank you for this enlightening post.

    Simon
